HISTORY ASPECTS:The Arado Ar 196 A3 was a German single-engine ship-borne reconnaissance and patrol aircraft used during World War II. The aircraft was produced by Arado Flugzeugwerke and first flew in 1936.The aircraft was operated by Bordflieger Staffel 196 which was a naval aviation unit of the Kriegsmarine the German Navy. The aircraft was named after the German battleship Bismarck which was also in service during World War II.The Ar 196 A3 was used for reconnaissance and patrol missions as well as anti-submarine warfare. It was deployed on several German warships including the Bismarck and the Tirpitz. The aircraft was also used in the Mediterranean Sea the North Sea and the Baltic Sea.During its service the Ar 196 A3 saw action in several major conflicts of World War II including the Battle of the Atlantic the Battle of Norway and the Battle of the Mediterranean.
